Nussara Meesane
Nussara Meesane from Thailand, has been working in ethical trade since 2001.
She worked with Reebok Human Rights Programme, which subsequently became a part of the adidas Group. She was responsible for supporting the implementation of the Company’s standards at factories producing Reebok and adidas products through a sustained process of factory monitoring, remediation, training, worker-communication and pilot projects.Nussara was promoted to Programme Manager for Thailand and Cambodia in 2005. During her time in ethical trade, Nussara initiated projects that reflected her conceptual depth and commitment to worker welfare, including:
- A series of training programmes aimed at building workers’ awareness on labour rights.
- Drafting employment guidance notes on annual leave, drugs tests, trainees and country memos on migrant workers.
- Building factory management’s capacity on grievances, discipline, and fundamental management system to ensure worker rights are respected.
The latest training project Nussara conducted for the adidas Group was Freedom of Association for Worker Welfare Committee in Thailand.
Nussara is currently taking an M.A. in Human Rights (International Programme) at Mahidol University, Thailand. In the meantime, Nussara runs a social enterprise – ‘The Thai Labour Development Network’, which aims to improve workers’ livelihood through involving management. Nussara is keen to promote money-saving programmes for workers, which help workers to manage their money in a sustainable manner helping to develop a happy workplace.
