Job Advert - New Look Ethical Trade Manager responsible for East Asia
New Look is looking to hire an Ethical Manager, to be responsible for East Asia. This is an exciting opportunity for a Mandarin and English speaker with three to four years business experience to be instrumental in improving, monitoring and supporting our clients Ethical Aims. The successful applicant will be responsible for working with suppliers both in mainland China, as well as other Asian sourcing countries. The applicant would ideally be based in Hong Kong, although candidates from other locations will be considered.
Our client is a large UK retailer with over 800 stores in the UK, Eire and mainland Europe, whose vision is to bring about real and sustainable change in factory conditions. They are committed to improving workers’ lives and livelihoods by working closely with suppliers to jointly understand and resolve workplace issues, in part through their membership of the Ethical Trading Initiative. The person would be responsible for conducting factory assessments, implementing project outputs, building and retaining strong, trusting relationships with suppliers, and liaising with all stakeholders in the supply chain.

JOB OVERVIEW
- To have overall responsibility for the retailer’s Ethical Trading in China and South East Asia and ensure all factories are working towards Client’s Code of Conduct/ETI Base Code.
- To ensure improvements are made are made to working conditions and labour standards in all producing factories.
- To work with and support suppliers to improve their ethical performance
- To promote and manage consistent factory approval process.
- To implement social compliance systems throughout the supply base.
The Ethical Manager will be responsible for all aspects of project management, including, but not limited to:
- Organising and managing projects on a daily basis
- Manage and implement the new supplier process with regard to the ethical processes of our client.
- Auditing and monitoring labour standards in all factories
- Coordinating and conducting factory assessments and consultancy programs to improve factory management and raise awareness of labour standards
- Analysing improvements/risks and implementing initiatives to drive the Ethical Programme forward.
- Mapping the Supply Chain to ascertain if factories are using sub contractors and/or home workers
- Delivering Ethical Projects and roll out to other factories
- Participate in local ETI projects
- Assist and train suppliers to understand our client’s ethical standards and provide guidance in meeting them
- Promote the spread and implementation of best practices in the supply base through the development of supplier training materials and workshops
- Manage ethical audit data using all relevant databases, including Sedex. Ensure all suppliers are registered on Sedex, with audit reports and self assessment forms uploaded. Ensure supplier data is maintained and up to date
- Support suppliers to resolve issues found and directly implement technical remediation programmes where necessary
- Facilitating capacity building projects on supply-chain labour standards for workers, factories and international companies
- Serving as an expert internal resource working collaboratively to strengthen project quality and develop staff
- Provide regular updates and reports on activity, progress and challenges to other stakeholders
- Supporting and developing other team members
- Liaising with our UK offices, clients and local partners
