Launch of the public phase of the Benefits for Business and Workers project
Opportunity for subsidised training to develop more profitable factories offering better quality jobs.
Impactt’s project, Benefits for Business and Workers (BBW), entered an exciting new phase this week with public launches in Dhaka and Delhi.
More than 500 people attended the launches, including the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturing Exporters Association (BGMEA), the Apparel Export Promotion Council in India (AEPC), retailers, trade union leaders and NGOs, together with owners and from managers participating factories. BBW is sponsored by the Department for International Development’s RAGS Challenge Fund, Arcadia, Marks & Spencer, Mothercare, New Look, Sainsbury’s and Tesco and is managed by Impactt and Rajesh Bheda Consulting. The project, implemented in India and Bangladesh, marries benefits for businesses through productivity and quality enhancement, with benefits to workers through higher pay, lower working hours and better benefits.

Participating factories have seen remarkable results, with significant increases in productivity, reductions in quality losses and vastly improved performance on absenteeism and worker turnover. BBW offers a new approach to the garment sector, which is currently wrestling with labour and skills shortages and international competition.
Registration for factories to join BBW training is now open. Training will equip Industrial Engineers, Production, HR and welfare managers with the latest management techniques to build efficiency, improve quality and improve workers’ employment conditions through shorter working hours, better pay, better benefits more training and more promotion opportunities.
