Ethical trading decisions need to be based on accurate and digestible information
Impactt holds an extensive database of labour standards reference material. We monitor the news media, as well as commercial and academic publications. We comment on these stories through our blog and post them on our news feed. Our clients often come to us for specific briefings on a certain country or industry, to prepare for a trip or to inform a decision. They know they will get a concise and accurate briefing that focuses on just what they need to know. We produce public reports which synthesise learning, experience and good practice and provide companies with a framework for action. We encourage our clients to learn from the experience of others to avoid re-inventing the wheel. We have advised a number of clients on how to communicate their CSR strategies to key audiences including consumers, retailer customers and investors. Since retailers and investors are also our clients, Impactt is able to ensure these communications meet their requirements. Impactt have written a number of publications, which include:
- Changing Over Time (published by Co-operative Insurance Group, 2005) A report about the Impactt China Overtime Project which showed that overtime hours could be reduced and wages raised by improving productivity, efficiency and communication within factories.
- Taking the Temperature, Ethical Supply Chain Management (published by Institute of Business Ethics, 2004) A report on the progress in ethical trading over the past 5 years: how the pressures have changed, what companies have been doing and what lessons have been learnt. Case studies are given to illustrate best practice.
- In 2006, Impact undertook work for the Responsible Purchasing Initiative, by producing a research report outlining the trends in purchasing, the commercial environment for purchasers, the key aspects of purchasing which may affect working conditions and suggested ‘responsible purchasing indicators’. This research contributed to a report entitled ‘Buying Matters: consultation on sourcing fairly from developing countries’.
